Legal Question in Criminal Law in Indiana
ten years ago, I was arrested for a battery and residential entry. They were both knocked down to misdemeanors. That was the first and last time I ever had problems with the legal system. I was recently turned down for a job because of it showing as a violent history. How do I take this off my record?

If charges were filed and resulted in a conviction, you probably don't qualify for an expungement. Expungement in Indiana applies to an individual arrested but where no criminal charges are filed or all criminal charges filed against an individual are dropped because of a mistaken identity, no offense was in fact committed or there was an absence of probable cause. You can petition the state police to limit access to your criminal history to only criminal justice agencies if more than fifteen years (15 years) have passed since you were discharged from probation, imprisonment, or parole. So if this was 10 years ago, you could seek that relief in 5 more years.
