Legal Question in DUI Law in Indiana

Do criminal charges expire after so many years? If so, how many years. The charges have already been pressed. I know that warrants do not expire, but I would like to know if the criminal charges would expire if they have already been pressed for a misdemeanor.

Also, if the criminal charges do not expire, would it be best to plea not guilty considering that it has been so many years? I figure that it would be harder to get a conviction so many years later.

What is commonly referred to as a Statute of Limitations or in this case a bar to prosecution is usually 2 or 5 years in Indiana depending on whether the charge is a misdemeanor or a felony respectively. However since other things can affect this time period and hence the answer to your question, it would be wise to discuss with an attorney the facts of any situation which could lead or have led to criminal charges.
