Legal Question in DUI Law in Indiana

Operating while Intoxicated

Our son, 18, was arrested and charged with OWI, BAC, Illegal Consumption. We provided $700 cash bond. He has a court date set for one week from now. We do not know what to expect. Should we have an attorney? We do not want to relieve our son's responsibility, but want to know if we can help make this turn out the least painfully for his future as possible. He seems to have learned a lesson at this point, but we do not want to make it easy for him. We just don't want his future to be ruined over this mistake. Please offer advice. Thank you. Also, should he have been read his rights? He wasn't.

Since he's facing jail time, I think he definately needs an attorney. An attorney can help to negotiate a favorable plea agreement. The attorney can also advise you about the Miranda rights issue you raised.
