Legal Question in DUI Law in Indiana

My son-in-law lost his license for ten years for having more than one DUI. This was over five years ago and he has completed all of the steps for Alchohol treatment classes, and counseling. He is no longer on probation. He met and married my daughter shortly after he lost his license. Since then, they have had two daughters and are expecting a third in July 2011. This has been a tremendous burdon on my daughter to take him to work and pick him up and just be his driver for anything he needs with two toddlers and another on the way. He had heard that there was a possibility that he could write a letter to the judge in our county to ask for a probationary license to just use for work. He has worked in the same town as they live for several years but they are beginning to lay off their workers so he has just recently found a better paying job in a town around 20 miles away. Once again, this will be a terrible hardship on my daughter to take him and pick him up everyday but my son-in-law is doing the best he can to keep a good job in this economy. Do you have any advice for writing such a letter? Thank you very much! Tina

This calls for a formal petition, not a letter to the judge. You need to hire an attorney in your son-in-law's community to pursue a restricted license for him, which would enable him to drive to, from and for work.
