I am a 63 year old disabled man. My 96 year old mom lives in Mississippi with my brother. It appears she may have to go to a nursing home in a few months. I would like to visit her before that happens, but can't afford the trip. Can my mother give me the money for this trip without either of us incurring a penalty if she does go into a nursing home?

Probably not. Medicaid, if mom applies for it, is fussy about money distributions to kinfolk.
