Debts of medicaid patient in nursing home
Mother in nursing home is going on medicaid. Her SS and pension will probably go to medicaid. She has high credit card debts. Am I responsible as power of attorney and next of kin for her debts? Do I claim bankruptcy for her in her name?

As the attorney-in-fact, you are not personally liable for any of your principal's debt. She sounds judgment proof (no means of getting the debt collected) and bankruptcy seems a unneeded expense.
