My husband and I moved into my mother's house 8 years ago to better care for her when her dementia was progressing. She has now reached a level of the illness where she appears to need more care than we can offer 24/7. I have heard that we have been eligible for compensation for the care. And also I have heard that Medicaid may allow caregivers to retain use of her house until a later date. Can you confirm, and or point me in the right direction for help?

This is too small of a a space to answer all of your questions---you need to consult with a seniors law specialist. However, you are eligible for compensation for expenses and documented care----but you have to have proof and you have to show it on your income taxes. If you mother moves to a nursing home, it's doubtful that the caregiver can continue to live in her home---what would be the point?
