Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

2 grown women become sisters legally

My best friend and I are celebrating fifty years of best friendship in September of this year. We have always considered ourselves each others family and are closer than many natural sisters are. As a fifty year gift to ourselves, we would like to legally become sisters. Neither of us have any parents living any longer. Is this possible, and what would it require to do so if it is. We see it as kind of adopting each other but as sisters not as children. We would like to actually have a ceremony with family and friends to share this event to mark our 50 years of togatherness. Is it as simple as hiring an attorney to do some simple paper work, or more complex? Is it possible at all?

The only way that I know that this can be done is if both of you are adopted by the same person.
