Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

Adopted children and inheritance

My husband adopted 3 kids of his ex-wife's; all are adults. We have a 17-month-old son and have heard horror stories of adopted kids getting (in our case, a fifth each) large amounts if the father should die. We're wondering if there is anything my husband can do to insure that they don't have this right? What about if he has it in his will? Is there a way he can ''un-adopt'' them if he has to?

Thank you!

Re: Adopted children and inheritance

All your husband has to do to make sure that the one he wants to inherit is the one who actually does is to have a will.

He can specify in his will who gets what, and unless the will is found to be invalid (which doesn't happen all that often), then the kids aren't going to get anything if that's what he wants to avoid.

Hope this answers your question.
