Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

adopting neice

had my neice off and on from birth to 3. They had another baby that mother sufficated in bed while on drugs since the older sister was in the room they removed her and placed in foster care with cousin for the past two years. I was told I couldn't keep her because i had a 17 year old son that had been on probabtion when he was 14. Both parents lost all rights to her. I live in another county and want her with me. Cousin had planned on adopting her but has changed her mind. Can i have this moved to the county i live in or will everything have to be handled in the original County? Will I have to go through the fostering steps first or can i go straight to the adoption process?

Re: adopting neice

You do not have to go through the foster child system. You may adopt and the adoption can be filed in the county of your residence. If you need an adoption attorney, please let me know and I can refer you to an attorney in the Indianapolis area.

Good Luck.
