what age does a child need to be if standing in front of a judge in court.

It depends on the type of case. If it's a custody battle and the child is age 14, the child will have a say in where he goes to live.

If it's a criminal case and the child is a witness, there will be a hearing to determine whether the child is competent to testify. Usually the minimum age on that is 6.

If the child is really young, however, and there is an ugly custody fight, the judge might want to see the child in chambers, however.

It really depends on the case.
