Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

I asked a question and I worded it wrong. My daughter is sixteen ( by my first marriage) and would like to change her last name to her step-dad's. Her biological Father(this is the part I left out) lives out of state and is abusive, does she have to let him know/ask permission to change her last name-not adoption-just a name change.

So thank you to Burton Padore from Munster, IN for the info about just putting it in the paper, but just a local to us paper? or do I have to advertise in the out of state paper as well?

Thank you for your kind words. She is entitled to notice. You need to make an effort to find him and give him notice, directly.

I suggest that you find counsel as this can be tricky.
