Aunt wantes to save nephew!

The child services is putting my 8 yr nephew into foster care Mother is a drug addict, father is disabled. I live in kentucky. Is there anyway I can get custody of him.

While it would be beneficial to have an attorney to navigate the system, it is hard to say that you must have an attorney.

From your question, it looks like the nephew is in Indiana. Your first step is to contact social services in Indiana and make sure they know about you and that you want to be considered as a relative placement.

The next step would be for them to request a home evaluation through Inter-State Compact. Kentucky social services would then evaluate your home. The whole process can take weeks or even a few months.

If you have the resources, an attorney in Indiana MIGHT help speed things up, but probably not much. If you are denied, then you should consult an attorney.

Legitimate reasons for being denied include evidence of violence in the home, drug abuse, or history of substantiated abuse or neglect reports against someone in the home.
