Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

Birth Certificate

My boyfriend and I went our seperate ways long before I found out I was pregnant. Now he has moved out of state, I never talk to him and I don't plan on telling him about our child. My question is, if I don't plan on telling him, therefore not using his name on the birth certificate, what other options do I have for the space marked ''Father's Name''? (blank? unknown? other?) And what are some of the problems I or my son might encounter by not putting in a father's name?

Re: Birth Certificate

If you wish, you may write in NA for not applicable. However, you may be giving up child support for your son which may help in rasing him. There is also the chance Dad's ship may come in.If so, your son could have a future claim to his estate as an heir if paternity is established now.

The other consideration may emotional. Your son at some point in his life may wish to know who his father is and even want his name. Obviously the choice is now yours to make.
