change of custody
i have been divorced for two yrs. i have one daughter whom my x has custody of. i am involved directly with my daughter and i have a great relationship with her. her mother and i have also tried to patch up our differences. however, i have come to find out that my x has become a drug addict who is bankrupt and currently living with her grandma. the distance is becoming great between us, and my feeling is that i don't want my little girl living in this type of inviroment. what can i do to help my little girl?

Re: change of custody
If you believe that your child's present living conditions with the custodial parent are not in your child's best interests, you can best help your child by filing a petition to modify custody. If the custodial parent gets upset and tries to influence the child against you, then you need to ask the court to refer the matter for an expert custody evaluation. If the court does not have an agency that it regularly refers cases to, you will most likely have to advance the costs of such a service. Your child is well worth it.
