Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

Child Custody.

The cousin of a friend mine is in the hospital and dying. She has 3 children, with 3 different fathers who have nothing to do with the children. She has no family here except her cousin, a guy and an 18 year old son. The woman is undocumneted and so is the 18 yr old son and the oldest child. The youngest two are born in the US. We are wanting to help by possibly taking one or all the kids, but we are not sure what needs to be done. If the family agress we want t make it all legal, especially when its comes to the oldest child who we want to help get her papers. What do we need to do? Would it be best to get a lawyer?
