Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana
Child support
My husband currently works at a factory making about 30,000 a year. He also serves part time in the military. Currently he has no college education but is looking into the field of criminal justice. Upon considering changing jobs as a correctional officer, we realized he would be taking quite a pay cut. My question is, what would be the options regarding child support? His ex-wife is all about the money, but is his situation as hopeless as it seems? He is at a dead end factory job but if he tries to better himself then we are stuck? By the way he currently pays $355 a month. As well as covering his health insurance and free daycare due to him being in the military. Another thing we have been considering is joint custody, this case is heard in Muncie so I am not sure of the options. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Re: Child support
He will need to immediately file for a reduction in child support. There are some rules about when changes can be made (time, amt of monetary adjustment) and those could be answered by an attorney who would need to sit and discuss the matter with him. Get an attorney in town to review it and when he gets the job, immediately have the motion filed. Usually, you can get a backdated reduction, i.e., to date of filing.
Good luck.
