Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

Child Support

I would like to obtain child support without any type of paternal rights. Paternity has already been established because my son and I are on Medicaid and paternity was required for hospital bills from labor and delivery. The father has made it clear that he has no gumption and no interest in my son but I feel that it is only fair that he pay some type of child support. I do not want him to have visitation or contact with my son but feel that after 2 years he should have some financial responsibility. I greatly appreciate any feedback.

*Note* The father lives in New York and is on disability. My son and I live in Indiana.

Re: Child Support

When you ask for child support, it is likely that the court will determine parenting time pursuant to the Indiana Supreme Court Guidelines. It is very rare that a court will deny the father parenting time unless he is a danger to the child. However, based on what you have indicated, it sounds like the father wont even ask for parenting time.
