Child support paid, but not recieved
My support is removed from my check weekly by my employer. A check is then issued to the state by my employer. My daughter's mother goes through the state to receive the check. After a recent staff change, I was notified by her mother that she had not received a check for several weeks. Her mother has then proceeded to call everyone I know, including my employer to get information on the payments. My employer has supplied check numbers and is in the process of contacting the bank to see if the checks were cashed. My question is am I in arrears, if I have proof of payment? Can my daughter's mother call my employer in the future on this subject?

If your child support payments are subject to a wage withholding order by the court, the money should have been directly sent to the child support clerk's office. This office will then issue the appropriate child support check to the custodial parent. If there is a problem, then all parties should be checking with the support clerks office and request a record of payments received from your employer. If that record reflects receipt of payments made by the employer as represented,then that should be your proof of current payment. However, if the child's mother is a little nervous, then of course whatever information you may provide in addition could avoid the matter getting out of hand. If she contacts your employer, they will have to deal with that as they feel is appropriate.you may also wish to check the address your employer is using for the support office and ask if this task was recntly assigned to a new or different person in the payroll department of your company. Mistakes can happen.
