Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana
Child support payment records
My ex-wife and I were divorced in Lake County Indiana and now we both live in Porter County Indiana. I was advised by an attourney to mail child support payments to the Lake County Superior Court Clerk's office who would then mail an equivalent paymentS to my ex-wife. I was told that this was a good idea because the clerk's office would keep records that would be acceptable in court if I ever needed to prove that I have been making child supportt payments. The clerk's office requires that I mail them a money order which makes these payments a hassle.
I would like to make my child support payments by check directly to my ex-wife. I could also arrange to have the payments sent to her through an internet bill payment service. This would be easy and convenient but would it be wise? Would the courts accept the cancelled checks or the bill payment service records as proof that I have indeed paid her.
In general, is there a way I can arrange automatic payments of child support while insuring that safe, court acceptable records are kept.?

Re: Child support payment records
If you're an excellent record keeper (such as an accountant or bookkeeper by trade), this might work. If you're not, and most people, aren't, it's best to go through the clerk's office.
Trust me on this. It's a mess to try to figure it out later. Even though getting a money order is a hassle, it's even more of a hassle to try to justify your child support payments made outside the system, with receipts, canceled checks, etc.
And you'll end up having to hire an attorney, which will cost you more.
Hope this helps.
