Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

I have had child support payments ordered and taken from my paychecks since 1996. In 2005 I was unable to pay due to loss of job. In 2006 I was employed again and have had support payments taken from my paychecks until May 2011. At that time, I received letter from State office saying I had fulfilled my obligation, including the payments I missed in 2005. Now ex has filed that I owe him $28,000 in interest for late payments. The court is garnishing my wages. There was no hearing. The only notice I got was from my employer with a copy of the garnishment order. Does Indiana allow interest to be collected on late payments? I only missed paying in 2005 and what I missed was calculated by the court and added to the payments I made from 2006 until finished in May 2011. How is the interest calculated? I have hired attorney but I am getting nowhere and in meantime I am losing $500/paycheck. What exactly is the law on this? If done in error, do I have any recourse? Thanks so much!

Interest is calculated on any late support payment. If your attorney is not doing anything, get one that will.
