Child Welfare/Emancipation Question

16 year old girl wants to become emancipated. What is the chance of that? She had been on probation three separate times since the age of 15. Mother has sole custody, father not in picture. Girl repeatedly runs away from home. Hangs out with men in their 20's. Mother has given up on child, and kicked her out. She is now with grandparents (us) but does not want to be here, and constantly tries to leave her and will not obey. Claims she wants to be enamcipated or become a ward of the state and then she thinks she can live by herself and do what she wants. Has no job, has been kicked out of school for 3 time. No money.

What do we tell her will become of her? Can she become emancipated or ward of state? She is still on probation.

We are at our wits end!

Thanks.

Re: Child Welfare/Emancipation Question

Based on what you have submitted, it is unlikely that she will be able to obtain emancipation. She may ultimately end up violating her probation and ending up as a ward of the state, but will not be living by herself; that is for sure.
