when can a child decide for themselves, which parent they would perfer to live with?

Actually, when a child is age 14 or older, he or she has a SAY in where to live. In other words, the court will listen to whatever he or she has to say.
However, a child cannot on his or her own ever decide until age 18, when he or she is no longer a child.
