college funding

does a divorced father have to pay for childrens college,or any part of it

Yes, a court can order that a father pay part of the funding for a child's college. It can be done in several ways. 1. No order at all, in which case dad is off the hook. 2. An order that requires dad to pay 100 percent. 3. An order for dad and mom to split the cost. or 4. For dad, mom and child to split the cost.

Although no MARRIED parent is required to fund a child's college education, the courts see the diminished chances of a child going to college for financial reasons as the basis for ordering payment of college expenses.

The bright point of it is that the support the man is paying is abated in order to make up for the money spent on college expenses. In other words, you don't have to pay the full amount of support to mom and then also the college expenses.
