custody and convicted felons

can a father who is convicted of a drug felony obtain sole and legal custody of his who was child born out of wedlock in indiana?

It would be difficult but not impossible both because of the drug conviction and because the parties weren't married.

I would need to know more about the birth mother to give you a more complete answer. Is she still alive? Is she a fit parent? Has she ever abandoned the child in the care of others?

Would it be in the best interests of the child to be with the father, rather than the mother?

Does the father now have a suitable home, steady job, etc.?
