Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana
Daughter allegedly adopted but I'm still paying child support
I have been unable to see my daughter for 9 years because her mother moved and I was unable to find her. Recently I was able to locate her. Her current husband informed me that he adopted my daughter in 2003 in Indiana. However, I'm still paying child support (I do not live in Indiana), it is garnished from my wages. 1. How can I obtain record that my daughter has been adopted? 2. Why is Indiana still collecting child support? 3. Does my ex owe me child support paid since her husband adopted my daughter?

Re: Daughter allegedly adopted but I'm still paying child support
Thank you for your submission. You are unlikely to be able to obtain an adoption record as juvenile proceedings are sealed. Indiana has probably not been notified by the mother of the adoption and yes she owes you the child support if there was an adoption. You need to hire an attorney to straighten this out as the situation is too complex between trying to obtain conficential information and dealing wiht a bureaucracy.
