Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

My daughter who is 18 and her ex boyfriend are not together anymore. They are wanting to share custody of their 20 month old son. I think she should make it legal so that down the line there can be no problems arise. The reason they want to share custody so either one does not have to pay child support and they both will get equal time. How would they go about doing that. They really dont have money for attorneys. What can be done?

1. Yes they should file a joint paternity action establishing custody and support arrangements. The county prosecutior can do this for free.

2. They should not beliee that a 50/50 time split with no support will work. It is tough on the child, and ultimately will prove to be unfair to one or both of them.
