Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana
Deadbeat mom?
I was divorced by my husband 6 years ago, with two children 5 & 8 at the time. He recieved physical custody but it was stated as joint custody. I was then ordered to pay child support at $60 a week. Since then I have remarried, had another child, as well as a step-child who lives with us full time, and I lost my job. I have made a decision to stay home with the younger child and the step-son who needs constant supervision and have been recieving food stamps for over a year now. I have been unable to pay child support and am facing court soon regarding this issue. I have always picked up my children EVERY chance I get and request them all the time. I love my children very much and would do anything for them. My ex-husband is earning over $60,000 a year and has not remarried. Is there anything I can do to have the child support dismissed? My children do without nothing at their father's, he makes plenty of money and has his house and vehicles paid for, even before we were divorced. I recieve food stamps and health insurance for the two boys here and am unemployed, and plan to stay that way for the benefit of my younger child. Is there any ground I have to stand on? Please help! Signed, Not a deadbeat mom

Re: Deadbeat mom?
The court should be made aware of your situation. The issue of support in the furture may be able to be addressed in a positive way. Yet, you may still be obligated for the past support owed. It would no doubt be to your benefit to have counsel to address these issues whether the matter is in iv d court or dealing with your former spouses attorney. A full review of the issues in this matter is really needed.
