Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

divorce myself

I can't afford an attorney but I can't stay married to this man, he has done nothing but lie to me, we have no kids together, we rent and all the possessions we have except a bed and dresser is mine.. He had worked 4 mths out of 2 years and its not because he couldn't, he wouldn't work. Do i have to split everything with him or do i leave with what i brought into the marriage. We don't even have a bank account and haven't for several months. Your help is very much appreciated.

Re: divorce myself

Legally, there is a presumption that absent a written agreement before the marriage that what was yours remains yours, that he is entitled to 1/2 and you are entitled to 1/2 of his. However, a court has discretion to not follow that presumption.

Good luck. You should go to the Indiana Judiciary site for forms.
