Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

help with a divorce

I want a divorce from my husband and we have a 2 year old son. I do not work, he does, but I have no access to any money except what he gives me for groceries, gas, etc. He gives me no more than what is needed. I have no family in the state of Indiana, I am Shoshone indian decendent. He tells me I can leave but without my son, which I will not do. What can I do? Can I leave the state? How can I get a lawyer with no money? I have no one here to help me.

Re: help with a divorce

Call your local bar association for a pro bono referral, or contact a local charitable organization for assistance and/or referral. You may also prepare and file your own paperwork to begin the divorce proceeding and request the court for permission to file without advancing the filing fee. Access Indiana (the state's website) has a citizens legal forum with forms you can download, edit and print to file, along with instructions.
