Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

Divorce in Indiana

I want a divorce, i want to do it on my own but I worry that its the wrong way to go, I can't afford an attorney. We have no children together, but I have three from a previous marriage. We rent so we have no property to divide. No bank accounts either. All we have is the personal property inside our department and 2 vehicles. I already know we divide that. Do I have to divide the property in the house with him or can we just separate with what we brought into the relationship. Should I get an attorney anyway or is it safe for me to proceed on my own. Thank you for your time and advice.

Re: Divorce in Indiana

The general rule in Indiana is that unless you have an agreement before the marriage about the property you bring into the marriage, there is a presumption that all prioperty owned by the both of you should be divided up 50/50, regardless of who brought the property into the marriage. Again, this is a general rule with exceptions.
