Re: Divorce questions
No responsive pleadings are required in divorce cases. If your spouse has an attorney and you do not wish to hire one because the two of you have pretty much agreed on a division of property and to all other issues, it would be kind of you to contact the attorney to tell him you are in agreement and then to sign the paperwork he writes up so that the case will get over with in short order. Generally, if you do not show up for hearings when you do not contest the issues, you will not be held in contempt but the court will usually go ahead with a hearing and you can be charged with knowing the terms of a court order that you have never seen - or what you think your spouse has agreed to may not be what he or she tells the court. Have a little sense and attend the hearings or at least get an attorney and have them represent you to the other side that you are in agreement - but make sure you know what it is the other side thinks you agree to.
