First of all, the State of Indiana does not require any such thing. There is no absolute law that a parent must pay for college. Rather, a court considers many factors and then issues an order. Usually, the child has to pay 1/3 and the rest is divided either equally or by ratios between the parents limited to the cost of a state school regardless of whether the child attends a private school. There are also adjustments to child support if the child lives at school. You are assuming that they will even garnish your wages. They may not. However, if they do, it will be until the oblgation is paid. See if your child will qualify for some alternative financing where you assume the payments.
