Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

I have been divorced for 5 years this November I have been told that in Indidana I am entitled to half of his pension since we were married for 10 years+. Is this true?

You are getting pension and social security confused. Ten years is the minimum to entitle you to social security benefits at retirement. The general rule for pensions are 1/2 of the number of years married that are a fraction of his overall pension years. So for example, if you were married 5 years and he had worked at the same place that had a pension plan for all five years of your marriage and ten years overall, unless otherwise agreed or ordered ,you would receive 1/2 of 5/10 of the pension value.
