Divorse settlement

I am paying a loan my ex-wife had her father take out to pay her credit card debt I knew nothing about. Is there anything i can do to get out of paying this when she got the house and everything in it and all I got was 4 trash bags of clothing and her $50,000 debt.

Re: Divorse settlement

It sounds like its a bit late if this is already in the decree and you were aware of the situation at the time that the decree was entered into. The answer depends on a number of factors, including how long ago the decree was entered. Depending on how long ago he decree was issued you may be able to set it aside or present a motion to correct errors, or file an appeal. However, you will need to obtain transcripts of the final hearing and hire an attorney to review the transcript and your case file. Also, depending on how the decree was worded and other circumstances you might be able to discharge that debt in bankruptcy.
