Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

Domestic violence ,contempt of court

The state has picked up domestic violence charges against my exboyfriend. I missed the first court date and recieved a rule to show cause. Now I've been re-served for a second continued court date. Do I have to attend? I really need to put this behind me. What happens if I dont show up again? Can an advocate go instead for me or can a lawyer take my place? What would the contempt of court punishment be? I've never been in trouble before.

Re: Domestic violence ,contempt of court

If you have been ordered or subpoenaed to court, just go. The alternative is a contempt citation. Your question really doesn't give me a very good idea of what the situation is, but it sounds like the state is charging your ex with some sort of domestic violence. If that is true, you are a witness and either the prosecution or your exboyfrined can order you to come to court. If you are really concerned about this, contact a lawyer for some help.
