Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana
Is it possible to get an emancipation from my parents if I'm almost 19?

If you are 18 years old you are an adult and you are no longer subject to parental control and your parents are no longer subject to providing for you and protecting you.
If you are under 18 years of age you are still subject to parental control. If you wish to seek emancipation as a minor under age 18 you can petition a court which will look at your wishes to be free from parental control and protection and whether you no longer need control and protection. It will also consider if you have sufficient money for your own support. The court will also look into whether you understand the consequences of being free from parental control and protection and will evaluate if you have an acceptable plan for independent living. Your parents and others will most certainly participate in the process. It is advisable to have a local attorney familiar with juvenile and family law guide you through the process including whether you should even seek emancipation in the first place. Before taking such an irreversible step, you should probably discuss your decision with other adult family members and adults you trust and respect in your community, school, and/or church.
