Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

Family Photos

As of 2005, my mother and all four of my siblings refuse to associate with me. The reason for the alienation is a religious one--simply put, they believe that I participated in sacred ordinances in our church without being worthy. Now, any time I try to call or talk to them, they either don't answer the phone, tell me to go away, threaten to call the police if I do not leave, or speak for long enough to tell me that when I repent that we can have a relationship again. My mother has in her possession many family photographs. (I assume this, as she has had them for the many years I lived and associated with her.) As I am now married and have a child of my own, for sentimental reasons, I long to have pictures of myself as a baby and during my growing up years. My mother also has several journals of mine. I want to know if I have any legal right to the photos of me and journals of mine. I have left her a message asking for her to give me my journals, but she has never responded. I live in Utah, and my mother lives in Indiana.

Re: Family Photos

You probably do not have any legal right to photos taken of you, but should be entitled to the journals.

Rather than a legal action, I suggest that you contact a religious leader or counselor in your faith and have that person mediate a settlement with your family.
