Re: filing own divorce documents

The courts are open to parties who wish to proceed pro se (which means without an attorney). A party proceeding pro se is treated by the courts as having the same knowledge of the court system and rules as an attorney. Thus your paperwork must conform to what the court expects to see. If a guideline applies, then it must be dealt with. If a statute requires certain language, then it must be used. Law libraries in the county and/or the public library should have forms you can consult for an idea of what a pleading should both look like and what it should say. However, unless you have read the entire dissolution statute and all the guidelines which apply and the local rules, you should consult with an attorney. I see some potential problems with the custody and support situation.
