I currently have joint custody of my children. I want to pursue full custody. What should I anticipate to pay an attorney to pursue this?

Re: Full Custody

If this change in custody will be a contested matter, then you may have a substanial investment to make. This will vary depending on the complexity and the amount of time that that will be invested by the attorney involved. It usually means that you will be subject to a dollar per hour rate.

You may wish to contact an attorney and provide the facts surronding your situation and reasons you feel warrant a change. This may not only give you a clearer view of cost, but also the chances of accomplishing your goal.

As there is no real uniformed rate, you will have to contact the attorney you may be interested in, give him/her the facts and then obtain some type of estimate as to what to expect.

Generally, one will be required to pay an advanced amount representing a certain number of hours. After that has been exhausted, the billing normally employed is on a monthly basis. This consists of the additional time invested above the retainer and costs which are not fee related.

If you do move forward, be sure that you receive a written fee agreement from the attorney or law firm representing you for clarity purposes.
