Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

grandchildren live with us and we need legal custody for school

we have taken in 16 and 13 year old grandsons from abusive home. the mother gave them to us with argument but with agreement we could take them. We would like to get legal custody and the school insists on it. My husband is disabled, we've had to buy them all new clothing, etc and money is very tight. is this something we can do ourselves at court? I used to be a legal secretary. When the first child (now age 18) was living with us when we moved here 2003 and we only had to have the mother sign a paper. My husband, my daughters step-father (not her blood father), had actually adopted the children when they were young so he is listed on their birth certificate as their father. Thank you for your help

Try and see if a local agency can supply assistance to get a guardianship established. Call the bar association. Essentially, you must establish a guardianship.
