Guardianship

There is a family that the mother died in 1999,the father is a trucker and the stepmom says she can't handle the 12 year old son and the father wants us to take him and we are willing to do this,but the schools here says we have to have legal papers to get him in school,can we take guardianship just by the father signing a paper or do we have to go thur court for a judge to sign?please e-mail me ASAP this is very important.

Teh schools can now have you and the parents sign off on a form that gives you guardisnship for purposes of attending school. That applies only to the school. You need to contact the school about this. You do not get any control or authority over the child except by going to a court and having a judge sign off on a guardianship. The cost should not be great since the parent agreess to you having control of the child.
