Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana
My husband has a young child from a previous relationship and will be having parenting time with the child throughout the summer. We are trying to get insurance information in case something were to happen to his child while staying with us. The child's mother told my husband that he may not make any medical decisions without consulting her first. As of right now she has sole physical custody, but legal custody has not been decided yet by the court What rights do we have? Can my husband take the child to the doctor for a checkup if we think he needs it? He's not trying to hide anything, but I find it odd that his ex is requesting him to consult with her before making decisions. The two were never married. Since moving out of state my husbands ex has taken their son to multiple phsycians and therapists without giving my husband any say. Is she able to do that? Is my husband required to get permission from his ex before taking their son to any doctors?

Your questions are not as simple as they sound and additional information is needed. I suggest that he contact a local family law attorney and provide all court papers for review.
