Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana
in indiana, what are the laws about getting back child support? my dad has been gone since me and my brother were young, and he was supposed to pay child support but always quit his job and run and my mom got sick of chasing him so she quit trying. a few months ago, my little brother died in an accident, and my dad had 2 life ins policies on him (no one else could afford health insurance, let alone life insurance..) and he just continues to lie and tell stories to not pay for the funeral and now he is telling me never to contact him again etc etc. i thought if my mom could get back support for him (or even us), my brother was 19 and im 21) then we could at least use that to pay for the funeral. is it too late and how would we go about it, and would we need a lawyer? it should be open and closed case i mean he was gone he never paid support and now hes got life insurance money (at least 20,000) and hes on social security so its not like he can run this time...i just want the funeral paid for and im sick of him getting over on everyone and using people. he never wanted anything to do with us now hes benefiting off my brothers death? makes me so sick! (always been in indiana by the way, he moves around the country a lot but we have always been in indiana)

"The laws " are that he owes every missed payment due within the last 15 years. Your mother should take this information to an attorney of her choosing, or to the prosecuting attorney in her county of residence, who can enforce it for her. This is hers to enforce, not yours.
