Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

joint custody

My divorce papers say that my husband and I have joint legal custody of our son with him having physical custody.

He has informed me that I have no decision making and no say so in my sons life, that he (EX) makes all the decision and he is the only one responsible for our son, so its his way or no way with the threat of taking me to court so he can have them show me the law. I need to know exectly what joint custody means and does he have the right to make all the decisions in our sons life.

This is very important to me, if you could PLEASE help me with this question.

Thank you

Re: joint custody

The decree must be reviewed before any real determnation can be made. However, joint legal custody usually means that both parents have input as to certain decisions regarding the child. An example, while not exhaustive would be public vs private education or religious faith. In house rules may be left to the parent with physical custody. If a dispute arises, it may be necessary to have the court resolve it unless the decree addresses the issue of dispute. Consult with the attorney who represented you or seek one out to review your decree.
