grandson charged with auto theft, pre trail hearing is coming up and his dad is ordered to appear. The hearing is 100 miles away, he does not have the money or vehicle to make the trip can he be held in contemp of court? Already contacted the court but the clerk would not answer the question, he is not the custodial parent. Can he write a letter to judge stating his feelings on the welfare of the child to excuse his presents in court?

Unfortunately, he will need to appear unless he is able to obtain a court order to the contrary.
