what is the law or precedent on a child that is over 18, whereby the parent (father) is still paying child support to the mother after the child has reached the age of majority and gone off to college? and is the amount of support able to be redirected to the child directly?

Child support continues until age 21 to the custodial parent. If the child lives at school,an adjustment is made, if not, no adjustment. Also, in addition to child support, the child may be entitled to contribution toward college expenses by both parents.
