Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

Hello Lawgurus. My situation is as follows. My son returned to PR to live with his mother again. He had been living with me for the past 2 yrs. My other son still resides with me, he has been here a year. Their mother has legal custody of both with "patria potestad compartida." She has never sent any child support, even though I have asked, but I did not want to go to court for it, since it seemed such a hassle. I reside in the State of Indiana. Now, I have recieved paperwork where her lawyer is demanding I pay her child support, or else. What would be the best way to go about this? Since she is doing this, should I get a lawyer and go through the court system? Can I open a case and ask for back child support that she never sent, and child support for the child that still resides with me? Any advice would be truly appreciated. Thank you.
