Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

I live in the state of Indiana and I was wondering if it is possible for a custodial guardian to be forced to sign custody rights over to someone else if the child no longer wishes to live with the custodial guardian. It has been stated by a licenced therapist that it is unhealthy for the child to remain in the care of the custodial guardian. The mental state of the child is being affected daily by living with the parent. The child has a very low self-esteem and a history of self mutilation. The parent is an ex-drug-addict and was constantly neglecting her children. The childs father passed away three years ago. The child has a woman who she grew up with who is willing to take her in. The woman is in a stable household. She can also offer the child the care and love that the child needs. The child already thinks of this woman as more of a mother than her birth mother. Is it possible for the custodial guardian to be forced to sign custody rights over to the other woman?

It is possible for the woman seeking custody to ask the court for it, but it is a very uphill battle to accomplish it. She needs to seek an attorney to have any chance to do this. There are two many variables to provide a complete answer here.
