Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

Need Help Getting Married

Hello,

Please help me, My fiance has been married once before and recently in February got a divorce. He was told he had to wait 6 months before he could remarry. He is being deployed over seas at the end of this month and I was wanting to know if there is any way around the six month waiting period, and if so how you can do it. We wish to be married before he leaves but I know that a marriage before the six month period is over would be invalid. Is there any way around this; Please help. Thank you for your time and effort.

Re: Need Help Getting Married

I am not aware of any provision in Indiana law that prevents a marriage after a dissolution of the prior marriage. If your friend was divorced in another state, it may take that period of time for the divorce to become final. If he merely filed for dissolution in February, then he cannot remarry until his dissolution is final.
